Georgia is state located within the southeastern United States. Known as the "Peach State," the state of Georgia was among the original Thirteen Colonies, named in tribute to Great Britain's King George II. The Blue Ridge Mountains, a mountain range within the Appalachian Mountains system, dominate the northern part of the state. The southern region of the state is continental coastal plain. Florida State lies to the south. The Atlantic Ocean and the state of South Carolina lie to the east, and the state of Alabama to the west. Tennessee and North Carolina State lie to the north.

The production of food is key to the state's economy. In southwest Georgia, in the area of Albany is the core of pecan production. As a matter of fact, Georgia is the number one producer of pecans within the world. Gainesville within northeast Georgia is a center of poultry production. Other state products comprise peanuts, soybeans, corn, peaches, cattle, rye, dairy products, hogs, tobacco, turfgrass and vegetables.

The state has a really diverse industrial base. The timber and mineral industry have many operations here. Within Decatur County, the town of Attapulgus produces a clay material known as palygorskite.
