Manchester, New Hampshire is the biggest city within the state and the biggest city in northern New England. Northern New England comprises the states of Maine, Vermont and New Hampshire. It is New England's 10th biggest city and is located in Hillsborough County along the banks of Merrimack River. This river divides the city of Manchester into the eastern and western sections. During the year 1783, it was initially incorporated as part of East Hartford. During the year 1823, it was later incorporated as a separate town. During 1838, the world's biggest silk mill was established here.
