Costa Mesa is a multicultural city located in Orange County. The city presently hosts a population of 113,440 individuals in its 16 square miles. The Pacific Ocean is situated just a mile away from the cities southern border. Costa Mesa was incorporated in 1953 with a population of about 16,840. At first, the cities economy was dependent on semi rural farming but since the city has developed, it has come to rely more and more on retail commercial companies as well as action sports industries, such as skateboarding, snowboarding, and surfing. Los Angeles is located roughly 37 miles northwest from the city. San Diego is 88 miles south and San Francisco is 475 miles north. Other cities that are near are Newport Beach, Irvine, Huntington Beach, Fountain Valley, and Santa Ana.
The city has several well maintained amenities, comprising three libraries, two golf courses, and more than 25 parks. It is likewise home to 20 public schools and the post secondary institutions Whittier Law School, Orange Coast College, Nation University and Vanguard University.

These buildings comprise the Orange County Performing Arts Center, Renee and Henry Segerstorm Concert Hall and Theater and the South Coast Repertory Theater. The biggest shopping center within the city, the South Coast Plaza, is home to over 320 stores. It produces amongst the highest volume of sales out of regional shopping malls in the state of California.
The city's administrative functions take place in the five story high Costa Mesa Civic Center, which covers 9.5 acres. Moreover, the Council Chambers, Communications, Police Department, and Fire State No. 5 can be found here. The Center could be found at 77 Fair Drive.
Interstate highways 55 and 73, in addition to Interstate 405 run through the city. This allows residents and visitors to travel to and from the city.
There are several activities to do round the city, with several mountain ranges, high/low deserts and beaches nearby Costa Mesa. People who are interested in a more urban experience can visit Disneyland, Knott's Berry Farm, Palm Springs, and Los Angeles (which is home to various major league teams and sports arenas).
