Vallejo

Located on the north-eastern shore of San Pablo Bay is Vallejo, the biggest city within Solano County. It was named after General Mariano Guadalupe and now hosts a population of 116,760.

There are various major centers offering work within the area consisting of: Oakland, San Fransisco, Berkeley, Walnut Creek/Concord and the Tri Valley area. Via the present transportation system, these places are easily reachable.

There are major highways which run close by the city, like for instance State Highways 37 and 29 and Interstate Highways 80 and 780. These highways make easy for workers within the area to work within the major cities close by. The Vallejo Bay Link Ferry, which takes less then one hour to move from Vallejo to San Francisco, is used by over 2000 individuals per day. The Union Pacific provides rail freight service, and Vallejo Transit provides bus connections to the Bay Area Rapid Transit System and service across town.

There are 2 private airports within the surrounding area, that consist of facilities at Buchanan Field in Concord and Napa County Airport. Within 50 miles there are three main commercial airports, that comprise Sacramento, Oakland and San Fransisco. Shipping opportunities for companies are vast, with ports located within San Fransisco, Oakland, Richmond and Sacramento.

The oldest naval base west of Mississippi used to be located on Mare Island. Ever since its decommission in the year 1996, new houses have been built and planned on it's previous location. Touro University, that is located on the island's south side, is planning on opening a state of the art cancer research facility. One economic plan of Vallejo is to revitalize Mare Island, which will be done by the construction of new neighborhoods. There is a lot of rich history as well as an abundance of national historic landmarks situated here, none the least of which is the one of the nations oldest decommissioned shipyard and naval bases. Along with these, there is also a 19th century brick industrial warehouse and some coal shed artist studios. A couple of other notable historic landmarks are the Chapel park, Officers mansions and Alden Park (designated historic landscapes), and the oldest golf course west of the Mississippi. Finally, the Saint Peters Chapel, that was built during 1901, houses the biggest collection of Louis Comfort Tiffany's stain-glass windows.
