Coral Springs, Florida is situated in the states Broward County, roughly 20 miles or 32 km northwest of Fort Lauderdale. The city of Coral Springs was officially chartered on the 10th of July, 1963. Based on the Census of 2010 the population of the city of Coral Springs was around 121,100. Coral Springs is a part of the Pompano-Miami-Fort Lauderdale Metropolitan Statistical Area that in the year 2010 had 5,564,635 people within it.
WCI Communities primarily developed and master-planned the city of Coral Springs. At the time, it was then called Coral Ridge Properties and was a division of Westinghouse. The city's name is taken from the company's name. It was chosen after various proposals had been taken into account and rejected. Although the name implies it, there are no springs in the city of Coral Springs. The actual Florida springs are found in the central and northern areas of the state.
The young city grew rapidly throughout the 1970s, 80s and 90s. each and every decade, more than 35,000 new inhabitants joined the city of Coral Springs. There is a distinctive environment in the city of Coral Springs amongst the cities within South Florida.
