The California way of life is perfectly represented in Huntington Beach. Called "Surf City", it is an ideal place for those craving rest with its 8.5 miles of stunning beach and beautiful climate. The city is located in Southern California in Orange County, with San Diego 90 miles south and Los Angeles thirty five miles north. It was named after Henry Huntington, a railroad entrepreneur, who started the development of the city.
The city is so gorgeous that lots of popular singers and songwriters have referenced it in their songs. A couple of well known songs that pull their inspiration from Huntington beach are "Surfin' Safari" by the Beach Boys and "Surfer Joe" by the Surfaris. Dean Torrench, from the 1960's band Jan and Dean, said that their song "Surf City" was represented by Huntington Beach because it "embodies the song's spirit of freedom and California fun."
Huntington Beach boasts some of the safest and cleanest beaches within California. The endless sunshine along with the cool Pacific waters make it ideal for beachgoers and surfers. The dress code around town is really casual, with wetsuits, bikinis and sandals being the norm.
Huntington Beach was voted the best place to live in Orange County, by the Orange County Register readers. The city offers many kinds of houses so as to suit whatever income type and has a marvelous education system. The city ensures that all of its amenities, like boat marinas and several parks, are kept clean and well-kept.
The two main businesses within Huntington Beach are Tourism and Technology. Presently, there are over 650 industrial businesses situated within the city. Some of the big names that have opted Huntington Beach as home are C & D Aerospace, Boeing, Quicksilver and Cambro manufacturing. There is an assortment of jobs offered in the city.
In the city, Boeing is among the largest employers. The facilities sit on the previous location that was used to serve the Appollo program. From that time, there are still some interesting building still being utilized comprising the S-IVB upper stage utilized for the Saturn IB and Saturn V rockets. Additionally, a couple of telephone polls still have the "Apollo Dedicated Mission Control Line" written on them.

Huntington Beach sits above a natural salt dome. Within the salt dome is a reservoir of oil, yet it has depleted considerably through the years. Currently, oil production counts for a considerable portion of the local revenue. There are a total of two offshore extraction facilities left, but in due course tourism has to become the primary income source for the city.
