Cary

Cary City, in North Carolina is situated within Wake County and in parts of Chatham County. Cary City is considered to be a suburb of Raleigh. Cary is the 2nd biggest municipality of Wake County and is the third largest, behind Raleigh and Durham, in the Triangle. The town's population has increased throughout the last decade, increasing by 43%. It has grown from 94,536 individuals in the year 2000 to roughly 135,200 by 2010. The city of Cary is amongst the fastest growing municipalities within the US. It is the largest town and seventh largest municipality in North Carolina.

The region is called "The Triangle" because of the Research Triangle Park (RTP) created there in the year 1959. Three major research universities - NC State University, Duke University, and UNC-Chapel Hill - are located in The Triangle. Chapel Hill, Raleigh and Durham cities make up the three most vital research cities of RTP. The Triangle is bordered on three sides by Durham City and is halfway between Raleigh and Chapel Hill Cities. The city of Cary is situated next to The Triangle in the Piedmont region. The north and west edges of the town are bordered by RTP.

To the west of Cary City is the Jordan Lake area. The town is hilly and has a humid subtropical climate. The summers are hot with temperatures reaching more than 100 degrees Fahrenheit. The winters are mild with an average of seven inches of snow. The town has 43.5 square miles of total area, according to the Census Bureau of the United States.

Cary City was originally settled during the year 1750, when it was initially called Bradford's Ordinary. The area became a major transportation route, after the North Carolina Railroad arrived in the mid 1800s. The very first settlers were Allison Francis Page with his wife, Catherine Raboteau Page. A farmer and lumberman from Wake County, Page acquired land in the year 1854 and named it Cary to honor the previous Ohio congressman and prohibitionist, Samuel Fenton Cary. When the town was officially incorporated during the year 1871, Page became its very first mayor.

The Cary area has numerous parks meant for outdoor recreation, including MacDonald Woods park, Annie L. Jones Park, Sears Farm Road Park, White Oak Park, and Fred G. Bond Metro Park. A popular location is the Hemlock Bluffs State Natural Area. Hoffman Lake, MacGregor Downs Lake and Holiday Acres Lake are wonderful places used for water sports and fishing. Each year the Town of Cary hosts different festivals and events like for example Spring Daze Arts & Crafts Festival, Martin Luther King Jr. Dreamfest and Art Quilt Show.
